'Enduring a Horrific Ordeal': Relatives of Unaccounted For Young People Desperately Seek News After Ski Resort Blaze
The loved ones of young people unaccounted for after a deadly blaze at a bar in a Swiss winter destination are facing an agonising wait for answers and appealing for any details about their family members publicly.
The inferno engulfed the a popular bar in Cans-Montana, located in the Alps of south-west Switzerland, in the early hours of New Year's Day. Verified footage depict the ceiling being engulfed in flames as beverages with fireworks are held aloft.
Emergency services have stated that it could take considerable time to formally name the victims of the fire, which killed 40 people and wounded another over a hundred. Authorities noted on the latest update that 113 of the injured have been accounted for, with efforts ongoing to identify the remaining few.
In the interim, relatives have been using online platforms to plead for any news about their friends who were present at the venue that fateful night.
Desperate Searches for the Unaccounted For
The whereabouts of Swiss national Arthur Brodard, a teenager, are still unconfirmed, according to an appeal from his mother.
The who lives of Lutry near Lausanne, informed a publication that she had gone back to Lausanne to check whether he was in the medical facility, while his other parent did the equivalent search in the capital, but did not locate him.
"It feels like a terrible dream, an ordeal. Either I find my son in the morgue, or I find him in critical condition. Words cannot describe it," she stated.
She explained that some of his companions had been located with burns covering a significant portion of their bodies. "It's indescribable; they went through a terrifying ordeal."
The Italy's foreign ministry has confirmed that six of its nationals are still unaccounted for.
Among them is Emanuele Galeppini, a 16-year-old junior golfer, originally from Italy but now residing in Dubai.
The national sporting body has stated that he is dead, without directly referencing the fire, honoring a "young athlete who represented dedication and true sportsmanship."
His parent, reportedly stated that his son was at the bar and was last heard from around the new year. An official spokesperson has indicated that a official announcement of his death is awaited.
Other Missing Individuals
Giovanni Tamburi, 16, is also among the missing. His parent explained that he had been on vacation but had ventured out with friends and ended up at the bar.
"A close friend said they ran away after the fire erupted and that he had his mobile with him, but then at a specific moment he lost sight of him," she said, adding he had been wearing a identifiable piece of jewelry.
One of his teachers commented, "I've always been struck by his kindness and positive demeanor, coupled with great maturity. Every time offer to get me a coffee."
Alice Kallergis, who holds both Greek and Swiss citizenship but lives permanently in the country, was also present on that night, according to sources.
Her brother has posted an appeal online, saying the relatives has had "no news" regarding the teenager or the three friends she was with, who are also unaccounted for.
