Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Claims Connected to Wide Receiver Rashee Rice
The NFL franchise issued a statement on Wednesday evening confirming they are aware of claims of abuse made public in social media posts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver Rashee Rice and were in contact with the NFL.
The team omitted the name of Rice specifically in their announcement and noted they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Claims Shared on Instagram
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name the athlete by name, posted a set of images on Instagram that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. She stated the person involved was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has kids with the football player, whom the Chiefs selected in the 2023 draft.
Official Complaints Reportedly Not on File
No official complaints were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have taken place.
Player's Recent Off-Field Troubles
Rice was absent for the first six games of this season following an league-mandated ban for his involvement in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that resulted in several individuals injured. Rice was sentenced a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to serious offenses.
Statistically, he finished the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs went 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a ten-year span.
