Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Sparks Heated Discussions Regarding AI Players, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios introduced a new game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough format but includes several notable adjustments:
- Each team has only eight human participants, with the rest filled by AI-controlled opponents.
- Activities done by real players grant full XP, while AI activities provide lower rewards.
- Just a pair of maps can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
- Elements like Dogtags, achievements, and career stat updates have been turned off.
In short, this mode lives up to its name: it's a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think it's a good idea, since it gives additional choices for gamers seeking alternative methods to enjoy the game. But, if video games has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, a lot of BF6 players are mad.
Player Responses: From Fury to Support
"People want human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking concept," says a different user. Meanwhile, in community forums, one user remarks, "It's unclear where we are going with this title," and someone else lists all the issues they consider to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants keep it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," reads a forum post. "This subreddit fails to see that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this game all the time. Let them strike a balance," adds a different comment. One reply via social media explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," and another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Constructive Criticisms and Community Input
All that said, there are constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it will make queue times even longer for other modes because of the sheer number of options currently available. On a similar note, some areas already encounter AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide full XP, including AI matches, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the system. So Casual Breakthrough seems like the community compromising halfway, according to forum feedback. A different user describes this addition as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I experienced so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Future Prospects: Adjustments Occur?
If the development team has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it is that they're paying attention and acting on player input. Assignments that were overly hard got fixed very quickly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, should analytics shows this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to change it again.
